About The Club

Name: The City Ground

Capacity: 30,445

Year Built: 1898

A traditional English ground, the ‘world famous’ City Ground is renowned for its atmosphere. One of the few stadiums of its kind left in the Premier League, it sits beside the River Trent, just past Trent Bridge. The buzz around matchdays begins well before kick-off, with several pubs dotted along the river, fans gathering along the embankment, soaking it all in.

The ground itself is a sea of red and has remained largely unchanged over the years, maintaining its classic charm. In 2024, a new premium hospitality development introduced shipping container-style suites, further levelling up the ground’s atmosphere. As the crowd roars out the club’s rendition of ‘Mull of Kintyre’, it’s enough to make the hairs on any fan’s neck stand up, especially when paired with one of Forza Garibaldi’s iconic tifo displays.

Interesting Facts
  • Forest are the only European Cup winners (2) to have won more European Cups than league titles.
  • The City Ground sits right on the River Trent, and is one of the few stadiums in England so close to a major river. In fact, it’s just 300 yards from Notts County’s Meadow Lane, making it one of the closest rival stadium pairs in English football.
  • Nottingham Forest vs Notts County is one of the oldest local derbies in world football. Both clubs were founded in the 19th century (Forest in 1865, County in 1862), and their stadiums are less than 500 meters apart.
  • Under Brian Clough, Forest went 42 league games unbeaten (1977–1978) a record that stood for decades until Arsenal’s Invincibles.
  • Forest are based in Sherwood Forest’s historic county, home of Robin Hood. The club badge even featured a tree and river to represent the forest and the Trent
