Capacity: 29,589
Opened: 1896
Location: Fulham, West London
Craven Cottage, perched on the banks of the River Thames since 1896, is one of English football’s most charming and historic grounds. With its distinctive red-brick Johnny Haynes Stand – a Grade II listed building – and the newly redeveloped Riverside Stand bringing a modern touch, the stadium perfectly marries heritage with progress.
Unlike many modern bowls, Craven Cottage retains its intimacy. Fans are close to the pitch, making for a loud and personal atmosphere, while the riverside backdrop gives it a uniqueness no other Premier League ground can match.
Fulham, London’s oldest professional football club (founded in 1879), have long been known as “The Cottagers.” Born out of St. Andrew’s Church Sunday School, the club’s journey has seen ups and downs, from life in the lower leagues to European adventures. The fairytale run to the 2010 Europa League Final, where they toppled European giants like Juventus and Hamburg before narrowly losing to Atlético Madrid, remains a defining chapter in their history.
Johnny Haynes, the “Maestro,” is still considered Fulham’s greatest ever player, so much so that their main stand bears his name. Craven Cottage may not be the biggest ground, but few stadiums offer its blend of tradition, intimacy, and charm.
